Project Complete! Vida Grange Dementia Care Home

Read Time: 3 minutes

Throughout November and into the early part of December, our project and installation team have been working hard to complete the interior fit-out of the 124-bed Vida Grange, a specialist dementia care home in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

The fit-out project has included the supply of profiling beds, furniture, chairs and soft furnishings, and also the partnering with an interior design service to deliver a full scheme. We've created a project image gallery on our website which you can check out, but in this post, I'm going to look a little deeper into the Vida Grange project...

Vida Grange

Vida Grange is truly one of the UK's flagship care homes. It spans three floors and has two large wings which are joined by a building containing a reception, kitchen, training room and offices. The home is split into 8 independent 16-bed homes, ensuring patient-focussed care.

Other key features of Vida Grange include:

  • Several lounge and dining areas
  • En-suite washroom facility in every bedroom (yes, all 124!)
  • Internal gardens and rooftop terraces
  • Quiet room, library and activity spaces

The home is operated by Vida Healthcare, a care provider recognised for its outstanding levels of dementia care. Visit their website.

Take a tour around Vida Grange with the owner

In October, just before we started to deliver and install the beds and furniture into the home, Stray FM (a local Harrogate radio station) visited the Vida Grange site. The owner of Vida Healthcare, James Rycroft, took the reporter round. Listen to the broadcast here...

Profiling beds

The Opera® ProSafe profiling bed was specified for all 124 bedrooms in the Vida Grange care home. The care team at Vida Healthcare chose the bed for its excellent functionality and elegant design. Features of the ProSafe that make it a perfect fit for Vida Grange include:

  • All-in-one height range removes the need for separate low and standard height profiling beds
  • Accommodates air flow mattresses of up to 10" deep without the need for bolt-on extra high side rails
  • Robust build quality whilst maintaining an elegant and homely design
  • Available in hundreds of custom wood colours

The Opera® ProSafe profiling beds for Vida Grange were manufactured in a two-tone wood colour. The head and foot boards have a cream inlay with a solid oak wood surround, as you can see in the picture above.

Furniture and furnishings

We provided furniture for the whole facility including bedrooms, lounges, dining areas, leisure spaces and nurse/staff rooms.

For the bedrooms, the Buttermere furniture range was specified. This included dressing tables, bedside tables, and wardrobes, which were manufactured with custom cream panels on the sides.

Chair styles for bedrooms, lounges, and dining areas were chosen with the client and interior designers. Fabrics were sourced from Opera's contacts and the chairs were crafted specifically for the project. Furniture such as tables, sideboards and dressers varied depending on the design scheme they were located in.

All soft furnishings were hand made by a local sewing room. This included curtains, curtain boxes, cushions, throws etc.

Interior design

Opera partnered with an interior design service to deliver a client-led scheme. Interior designers worked closely with Vida Healthcare throughout the project to choose fabrics and design schemes that were both homely and suitable for dementia care.

The grand opening

This month, Vida Grange celebrated its grand opening, and the man who cut the ribbon was none other than the chief executive of Care England, Prof. Martin Green. StrayFM were there again to capture the event and to get the thoughts of those attending the event, including Vida's Healthcare Director, Bernadette Mossman. Listen here...

Now the home is operational and looking after its first residents. From the outset, Vida Grange has aimed to enhance the wellbeing and lifestyle for people going through dementia, and we're honoured to have a been a part of the home's journey.
