With winter fast approaching, it’s a good idea to start thinking about how to transition your bedroom into a cosier environment. Redecorating your room for each season seems a little extreme, not to mention expensive. However, there are small changes and added extras that can make your bedroom ready and efficient for the colder months.
Get cosy with electric blankets.
Electric blankets are a great addition to your bedroom for the winter season. If you’ve not tried one before, they’re wired blankets designed to heat up your bed and are even compatible with Opera’s adjustable beds.
There are a variety of different electric blankets to choose from, ranging from blankets to duvets as well as having features such as timers and connecting to your smart phone. Electric blankets are also very efficient as the use of one means that there’s no need to use your heating at night, saving you energy and cost.
Keep in the warmth with blinds and curtains.
Blinds and Curtains are very important for your bedroom all year round, but especially in winter. Not only are they essential for keeping the light out of your room and protecting your sleep quality, good quality blinds or curtains can also insulate the heat in your bedroom and keep the cold out. This is very effective, especially if you live in an older building where the windows are much thinner.
Stop the draught!
Draught Stoppers sit across the bottom of a window or door frame to prevent a draught from coming into the room.
These items are inexpensive and can be found in most homeware shops. They are also available in a variety of different colours and designs, meaning you can find one that looks good and matches the décor in your bedroom. They are effective as they stop the cold from entering your room and can help to keep your room warmer, meaning there is no need to heat the whole house during the night.
Swap over your duvet.
Duvets and Covers can easily be swapped out throughout the year to match each season. You may want to choose brighter and bolder designs for the summer and something a little cosier for the winter such as deeper and vibrant tones.
Microfibre and Flannel duvet covers are better for winter as they are thicker, soft and better to keep you warm at night. You may also want to switch your duvet to one with a higher tog (the duvet tog refers to how well the duvet can trap warm air).
Get the light right.
Lighting is essential during the dull winter months. As the evenings get darker, you may want a table or floor lamp to brighten up your bedroom without the intensity of the “big light” in your room. These also come in handy in the dark mornings.
A great option is to have a light with a dimmer or a smart light bulb, this means you can adjust the lighting as you wake up, so you don’t have to suffer from the brightness of the ceiling light first thing in the morning.
Some adjustable beds are now equipped with underbed lighting that lights up the floor just enough so you can see where you’re walking – genius!
We hope you stay cosy and comfortable this winter with these small and often inexpensive additions to your bedroom.
