How to winter-proof your morning routine

Winter is here, along with the cold and dark mornings. Waking up the right way is so important and can impact how the rest of your day follows. Changing up your bedroom and morning routine for winter is a great way to adapt to the change in weather and temperature.

Update your bedroom for winter:

Why not change and update your bedroom to make it cosier for the winter months?

Change up the lighting.

A dark room increases the risk of tripping and falling in your bedroom, but that doesn’t mean you need to fill your room with harsh and artificial light. There’s a variety of different lighting to choose from; wall lights, lamps or fairy lights.

A more subtle option for lighting is underbed lighting; this can add a cosy feel to your room and also save space.

The Opera Motion Adjustable Smart Base has built-in underbed lighting.

Get cosy.

A cold bedroom in the morning can make waking up even harder. Luckily, there are many ways to keep your bedroom toasty.

Investing in thicker curtains and blinds is an effective way to keep the heat in and save energy; they are also useful for the summer to block light on the brighter mornings.

Another great addition to your bedroom is an electric blanket; a great choice if you don't like leaving your heating on overnight.  Most electric blankets can connect to your Alexa or smartphone, meaning you can set timers throughout the night or turn your blanket on before you even get into bed.

Ease into the day.

Investing in an adjustable bed is a great choice any time of year. As well as being beneficial for your sleep quality, adjustable beds are great for mornings too. As you wake up, you can slowly adjust your bed into a seating position, making it easier to get in and out of bed.

Start your morning off right:

Having a morning routine is important to stay organised and reduce anxiety and an effective and relaxing routine is a good way to set the tone for the rest of the day.

Set up a smart morning routine.

You can use a smart device like Alexa to set up a morning routine. All you need to do is wake up and say, good morning, Alexa’.

There are many features to add and set up on your Alexa and other smart products in your house, including turning on the lights, the heating and water ready for your morning shower.

Your morning routine can also include more fun aspects such as turning on the radio, playing your favourite audiobook or music while youre waking up. This is a good way to start your morning feeling positive and ready for the day. Setting up a routine on your Alexa is simple and can be done through your Alexa app.

Do something for you.

Get ready for the day ahead by doing something for yourself, whether thats reading a few chapters of your book, a little bit of TV with a coffee or a morning walk.

Time for yourself is just as important as productivity and a great way to make a positive start to your day.

Get into a routine.

Waking up at the same time every morning is essential for building a routine. During the wintertime, it can be easy to let the cold and dark weather affect your mornings and your mood; planning out your time can help to avoid this and help you to get the best out of your mornings.
