Dr. Carleara Weiss is a distinguished Sleep Scientist, Assistant Professor, and Adult-Geriatric Nurse Specialist with over 15 years of experience in healthcare, research, and education. As a Research Assistant Professor at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York, Dr. Weiss is a leading expert in Behavioral Sleep Medicine and Circadian Rhythms, with a passion for improving quality of life through sleep science.
Originally from Brazil, Dr. Weiss earned a Bachelor’s in Nursing Science and a Bachelor’s in Education, followed by medical-surgical and geriatric training and a Master’s degree in Health Care from the Federal Fluminense University in Rio de Janeiro. After eight years as an Assistant Professor and Clinician, working with adults and older adults in hospitals, nursing homes, hospices, and private practice, she moved to the United States in 2013 to pursue her Ph.D. in Nursing at the University at Buffalo. She further honed her expertise with two postdoctoral fellowships in Pharmacology for Sleep and Circadian Rhythms and Geriatrics.
Dr. Weiss’s research and educational efforts focus on sleep and circadian rhythms, with a particular emphasis on their impact on wellness and quality of life for diverse populations, including adults, women, shift workers, parents, athletes, and older adults. She is an active member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Sleep Research Society, where she contributes to professional development workshops, research initiatives, and educational training.
In addition to her academic and research roles, Dr. Weiss is partnering with Opera Beds providing her expert commentary and insights on sleep-related topics.
