Established in 1937, Disability Action Yorkshire are a local charity that support disabled people to live the lifestyle they want. Through training, living support and assisted technology they help empower disabled people to achieve their own life aspirations. As part of their services, Disability Action Yorkshire offer a residential care service located in Harrogate for adults aged 18-65 living with a physical disability, which provides fantastic training and preparation to support independent living.
Residents are offered life skills and job training to enable them to take the lead on how they run their own home. As Disability Confidence Leaders, Disability Action Yorkshire staff are on hand to offer assistance with tasks like cooking meals, but encourage residents to plan and shop to develop skills towards independent living.
34 Claro Road residential care home offers beautiful communal spaces for the residents to share after spending time in their own private living space, which comes furnished and complete with an en-suite and daily-living equipment to suit the needs of each person. Residents are encouraged to attend college, volunteer work or other activities while living here and are supported with training courses to prepare them for joining the community. Disability Action Yorkshire aim for their residents to have the skills and confidence to move on into the community within two years. When residents feel confident enough, they can move into one of the training flats where they can live independently with the reassurance of staff on the premises if needed.
Information on residential care or online courses can be found on the Disability Action Yorkshire website, along with an Assisted Technology Blog.
The Assisted Technology blog looks at equipment to further assist disabled people to carry out daily tasks or sports to fulfil their life ambitions. Opera are happy to support this fantastic charity to build confidence in disabled people and support their independence. Donations can help to buy assistive equipment that will help people with disabilities to carry out daily activities both at work or at home.
