If you have a long-term health condition or a mobility issue that requires further care, you might find yourself looking for a medical bed for home use.
At Opera®, we're leaders in the medical bed market, manufacturing our unique range of beds that are specifically designed for patient care. Our beds are suitable for a number of different health conditions. We’re committed to ensuring your bed is an investment that’ll bring you maximum comfort and cater to your needs for now and in the future.
If you're looking to buy a medical bed for home use, all our beds can be purchased directly from our website. However, we understand that the decision may take some deliberation, as you'll want to ensure you get the right bed for your needs.
If you need any more advice before choosing your bed, our expert team is on hand to help.
Why Might You Need a Medical Bed?
If you're reading this, there's a good chance you've already had a recommendation to buy a medical bed by a doctor or someone working for a local health service.
If a family member has a health condition that requires nursing care, a profiling bed can help you to care for them. A profiling bed can help you with care needs at home, which might otherwise need unnecessary hospital stays. If you have issues with mobility or back pain, an electric adjustable bed might be suitable to help with your discomfort.
There are a wide range of illnesses that our medical beds can help with. If you're not sure whether your condition requires one of our beds, contact your doctor or health care professional to find out more.
What Medical Beds Does Opera® Offer?
At Opera®, we make a wide range of different beds, with each one providing different medical benefits. The bed you choose to go for will usually depend on what you need it for and the health needs of the user.
The three main bed types we manufacture are:
- Profiling beds
- Adjustable beds
- Rotating chair beds
Medical beds are designed for home care and needs-based purchases, so it’s important to find the right bed for your and your circumstances. You may have already spoken to a healthcare provider or a member of staff at the hospital about buying a medical bed. However, if you need more advice before committing to a purchase, our team will be happy to help.
As well as medical beds, we also have a range of accessories, bedding and mattresses available so you can make your bedroom complete.
Profiling Care Beds
Profiling care beds are one of the most popular forms of bed we sell. They're specifically designed for those with additional care needs and are especially useful for users who need long-term care.
The main purpose of a profiling bed is to help elderly people and those with disabilities (particularly mobility issues) with their everyday life, as well as providing additional support.
One of the biggest benefits of using a profiling care bed is that they're height adjustable, so you can raise the bed up and down as needed. As well as allowing the user to find the right height for their needs, this function also makes them perfect for nursing care.
Different parts of the bed can be moved due to the electric functionality of these beds, such as:
- The footrest
- The knee break (to elevate legs)
- The backrest - this allows the user to sit up in bed
Some of our profiling beds come with the lifting Trendelenburg function - whilst this does have health benefits (such as helping those with respiratory conditions), it should only be used by a care worker or someone with a medical background.
Our profiling beds come in different styles and widths to suit the user, with an all-in-one height range available on many of the beds we offer. Both double and single versions of the profiling bed can be purchased, and our Opera® Signature Bariatric Profiling Bed is perfect for patients with bariatric conditions or a larger size. The Opera® Solo Comfort Profiling Bed is an example of a medical bed that is more suitable for people suffering from dementia. All beds in the Solo collection have an ultra-low floor height, which provides extra safety to those at risk of falling out of bed.
Adjustable Beds
If you are struggling to sleep and your current bed isn't supporting you as it should, an adjustable bed could be the answer. They're more suited to people with back injuries or those who need extra support when sleeping (rather than users who need long-term care).
Adjustable beds provide many health benefits, supporting you whilst you’re sleeping to make sure you get the best sleep possible. They're controlled by an electric handset, which allows the user to elevate their legs and back to increase comfort. You can experiment with the elevation settings to find the perfect sleeping position for yourself.
As with our profiling care beds, dual adjustable beds can be purchased so you can still sleep next to your partner or spouse at night. Each side of the bed can be adjusted separately to suit both preferences.
The Zero-Gravity Position
The zero-gravity position is a setting available with our adjustable beds.
This is a function originally invented by NASA to ease the stress on the bodies of astronauts when they go into space. It works by simulating weightlessness and allowing the body to take on the natural position assumed without gravity.
The zero-gravity position has other health benefits as well as reducing stress, including improved breathing, reduced pain and swelling, increased heart health and the prevention of acid reflux.
Rotating Chair Beds
We manufacture electric rotating chair beds, which are another form of adjustable bed. These beds have a dual function - used for sleeping when fully reclined or transformed upright into a chair, allowing users to relax in a comfortable sitting position.
These beds are particularly suitable for patients with mobility issues or those who struggle getting in and out of bed. They also reduce strain on the body, which reduces the risk of injury to both the user and those caring for them - if they're being used in a care setting.
At Opera®, we believe it's important for people to retain their independence and autonomy, particularly if they require nursing care. Our rotating chair beds are specifically designed to enhance the independence of the user, whilst also assisting daily living and improving their overall wellbeing.
Thanks to the intelligent design, the patient doesn't need to rely on the help of someone else to assist them in sitting up. This means that the user may not need to use a care home to help with their health needs, instead allowing them to stay in the comfort of their own home.
How Can an Opera® Medical Bed Promote Health?
When bed-based care is needed, it's important to pick a bed design that is suitable for the needs of the user. If the patient has been in hospital or has used another health service recently, their health care provider may have already provided recommendations about what sort of hospital bed to get.
Some of the health conditions our medical beds can help with include:
- Dementia
- Skin conditions and infections
- Rheumatoid Arthritis
- Muscular Dystrophy
- Insomnia
- Conditions that cause breathing difficulties
- Recovery following a stroke
- Parkinson's & Alzheimer’s Disease
- Cerebral Palsy
- Motor Neurone Disease
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Back and joint pain
However, this is not a complete list of the medical issues our beds can assist with. If in doubt, you can find more information about the bed you might need through the NHS, as well as other accessories designed to help with everyday life.
If you need more advice about the most suitable bed for your condition, contact us and we'll be happy to help you.
Extra Comfort and Support
If you have mobility issues or a health condition that requires a little more assistance, the extra support our medical beds provide will be perfect for you.
Different adjustment settings are included within our beds, allowing you to change your seating or lying down position until you find the most comfortable spot. Adjusting your bed regularly can help with circulation and respiratory issues, so it's worth trying out the different settings once your new bed is installed.
If you have back pain or find it hard to sleep at night, one of our electric adjustable beds can help you to get the rest you need. Traditional beds don't conform to the natural 'S' shape of the spine, which can sometimes lead to further pain if you already have a condition affecting the area. With our beds, you can change your sleeping position to align the bed perfectly against the curve of your spine.
Increased Independence and Autonomy
Retaining your independence is a basic human need. Autonomy is valued highly, yet it's often restricted for the elderly or those with medical conditions.
Our intelligent bed design makes day-to-day living easier for those using our beds, meaning users can receive bed-based care in the comfort of their home, instead of relying on the care sector.
Our profiling beds make getting in and out of bed easier than it would be with a conventional bed, also allowing nursing care to be administered if needed. Our rotating chair beds take this a step further, moving the user from a sitting position in bed to an upright chair.
Getting in and out of bed can be difficult if you have a clinical condition - by using one of these beds, you may be able to do this without needing additional assistance.
Medical beds Make it Easier to Care
Our medical beds make the caring process much easier for both the patient and those caring for them. This means you might be able to keep your loved one at home, which should also increase their happiness and wellbeing.
Our beds are easily adjustable and are specifically designed to help with nursing care, making it easier for caregivers to assist the patient. Our profiling care beds are particularly suitable for care needs, as the different height ranges allow carers to safely and effectively reach the patient without causing injury.
If you're concerned about risk management, our beds are designed with safety in mind - both for the user of the bed and the caregiver. It's not uncommon for caregivers to develop musculoskeletal injuries as a result of helping their patients, but this can be prevented with our profiling beds, which can be adjusted to different heights to help with care.
Safety rails and other accessories can also be purchased for use with our medical beds, reducing the risk of injury further.
Find the Care You Need With an Opera® Medical Bed
Our comprehensive range of beds means there's something for everyone, no matter what your health needs are.
Nursing care can be made a lot easier with our medical beds - as well as being increasingly comfortable for those who use them. Our beds are also suitable for people with a wide variety of other health conditions.
At Opera®, we're dedicated to balancing clinical functionality with a modern and contemporary design, aiming to produce beds for patients that aren't clinical and confining. All our beds are designed in the UK, giving you the best of British throughout the entire manufacturing process.
If you're still unsure about whether one of our medical beds is right for you, we also offer a 10 Night Home Trial, so you can get used to the bed you're going to be sleeping in. We understand that investing in a new bed is a big decision and we want to make sure you're truly happy with your purchase.
