What is a hospital bed?
Sometimes referred to as hospital-style beds or medical beds, hospital beds are specialised furniture designed for people who require enhanced support to maintain their comfort and safety.
The main characteristics of a hospital bed include:
- Adjustable features: The height of the bed and the back and leg sections of a hospital bed can all be adjusted to support different medical needs, improve comfort and reduce the risk of pressure sores.
- Full-length side rails: Moveable side rails are installed to prevent falls, keep users safe, and provide support while getting in and out of the bed.
- Wheels: Hospital beds usually include wheels so they can be transported and repositioned easily.
These features ensure you or a loved one can live and rest comfortably while getting the support they need.
What are the benefits of buying a hospital bed?
There are many benefits to buying a hospital bed, especially if you or a loved one has a medical condition or limited mobility. These advantages include:
- Enhanced comfort: Modifying the back and leg positions enables users to ensure optimal comfort while resting, including the zero gravity position. View our range of zero gravity beds today.
- Improved health: Adjusting the bed can provide appropriate support, reducing pressure ulcers, bedsores, and other complications. Hospital beds can also alleviate the impact of respiratory issues and aid circulation and digestion.
- Ease of caregiving: Tasks like feeding, bathing and administering medical treatments are all easier in a hospital-style bed because the height can be adjusted accordingly.
- Increased safety: Side rails prevent falls, providing additional support for getting in and out of bed.
- Long-term savings: Buying a hospital bed for your own home can be cheaper than hiring equipment in the long run.
It's also important to address the emotional and psychological benefits a hospital bed can have on the user. Having access to the right support and being comfortable can improve quality of life tenfold and provide peace of mind by meeting the relevant medical and safety standards.
These hospital beds are suitable for people who are coming out of the hospital soon and those requiring long-term care at home.
Regardless of the situation you find yourself in, a hospital bed provides comfort and support and makes life easier. They promote independence and allow you to live comfortably at home.
Our profiling care beds are specifically designed for those who might otherwise need community care and are ideal for bed-based care. They can also be adjusted to different heights to assist caregivers.
And, if you need more space, we also offer larger bariatric beds.
